Our planet’s soils store almost as much carbon as is contained in the atmosphere and in terrestrial vegetation combined. Changes in soil management that result in increasing soil carbon are an important tool in combating increasing atmospheric concentrations of CO2. This webinar will discuss the carbon cycle in soil and potential impacts related to adding carbon back to the soil in the form of biosolids, manures, food wastes and other organic matter-based soil amendments, whether composted or added directly to soils. In addition to discussing the potential for carbon sequestration from soil amendments, the presentation will touch on other greenhouse gas emissions impacts related to organic waste management options.
