Call for Innovative Wastewater Technologies for Consideration at the WEF/WERF Forum on Intensification of Resource Recovery

WEF News Release

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) are currently seeking cutting-edge wastewater treatment technologies that provide intensification of resource recovery, including recovery of energy, nutrients, water, and other products. Proposers must highlight key aspects of their product or process for review by a panel of experts through a Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology (LIFT) Technology Scan. Selected proposers will be featured at a Forum on August 9-11, 2015 at Manhattan College in New York City. Co-sponsored by WEF and WERF, the Forum will include technology presentations along with matchmaking and development of collaborative future projects among utilities, vendors, academics, consultants, and others.Submittals must pertain to intensification technologies applicable to municipal and industrial wastewater treatment operations in developed nations such as the U.S. Processes for intensification of resource recovery are defined as follows:

Provides greater than 30% reduction in the capital cost – typically this would be associated with a reduction in concrete tank volume, footprint, etc. In addition to reduced capital cost, preference will be given to technologies that can also demonstrate a significant reduction in O&M costs.

Examples: solid-liquid separation, digestion pre-treatment/enhancement processes, granular sludge processes, membrane bioreactor processes, nutrient removal and resource recovery, carbon diversion, dewatering, filtration, and high-rate wet weather treatment processes.

Submissions are due no later than 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, January 16, 2015. Download the call for innovative technologies announcement for a complete description of the program and application instructions. For more information about the Scan submittals, please contact WERF Director of Water Technologies Jeff Moeller at jmoeller@werf.org or Technology and Innovation Manager Ravi George at rgeorge@werf.org.
